Highlights brighten your hair by lifting select strands lighter than your natural or base color. Done well, they add dimension, movement and shine, and frame your face without looking stripey or overdone.

Behnaz trained at the Vidal Sassoon Academies, where haircutting and color are approached as one design. Highlights are placed to show off the shape and movement of your haircut, whether that’s a sleek bob, a short pixie or long layers. On short cuts in particular, well-placed highlights add texture and make the shape stand out.
Foil highlights give even brightness from root to tip and the most lift. Balayage is painted freehand for a softer, blended look that grows out gently. If you want an all-over brighter result, highlights are usually the right choice; if you want low-maintenance, sun-kissed dimension, balayage often is. Many clients benefit from a combination.
Highlights don’t wash out, but as your hair grows, the regrowth shows at the root. Most people refresh them every 8 to 12 weeks, and softer, more blended highlights can often go longer.
It depends on your hair’s length and thickness and on the look you want. A full highlight takes longer than a partial one. Behnaz can give you a time estimate when you book.
